antonycarrickxx: sales teleselling: Cold Calling - Cold Calling ...

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Call it cold-calling; call it telemarketing; call it sales; telesales; call it lead nurturing. At the end of the day one thing remains common: you want to connect with the person at the other end of the line and sell them something.

Now I'm in a unique position as a marketing professional. Not only do I have the pleasure of working with "inside sales" and developing programs, scripts, etc., I also have the pleasure of receiving many of these "cold calls". As such, I feel a kinship, heck even empathy, for those folks who are on the other end of the line/email when it seemingly appears out of the blue.

I have made it a personal rule over the years that if I don't recognize the incoming phone number, it goes to voice mail. If I do happen to pick up the phone, in a momentary lapse of judgement, you'd better be on the ball. I can promise you, no matter what time it is, I DON'T have a few minutes to spare right now. Offer to book a time and send me some information in advance.

If you REALLY want to talk to me then I need to see the value in it. How will you make my job easier, my day better or my campaigns more successful? Know who you're talking to, both from a business perspective and a persona perspective. Understand my challenges and offer a differentiating alternative.

On the other hand, I do tend to sympathize more than others, since I too am measured on the success of outbound marketing and lead conversion. This means that yes, I may fill out your survey, I might listen to your pitch, I will review (skim) the material you send me and I will probably visit your website.

So if you want to elicit a response from me, here are my top tips:

Do speak slowly and clearly. Spell your name and/or company name if you have to. And for goodness sakes don't whiz through your phone number!Do tell me why you're calling.Do send me a proper calendar invite when I agree to a call. Make sure your contact details are included should I need to reschedule.Do spell-check your email and any attachments you send me.Do have a compelling subject line for your email and make sure the 1st paragraph supports it.Do make sure you know my name and the name of my company.Don't leave a voice mail that says you want to discuss an "opportunity" without giving me some clue as to what it's about.Don't leave your whole pitch in a voice mail. If 10 seconds has passed and you're still droning on, I will hang up.Don't tell me you have done work with IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, etc. Apparently everyone has. It doesn't differentiate you.

Finally, if it sounds like you're reading from a script, if there are lots us "umms" and "errs" then, you guessed it....CLICK.

But here's the good news. If you impress me with your approach and if I see a fit for your product/solution, chances are very high that I will give you an opportunity to quote for my business. And once you win me as a customer, and deliver on your promises, then not only will you have a repeat customer, but you will also have a loyal recommender to a vast network of colleagues and friends.

Boehner: ?At a stalemate? on debt talks

House Speaker John Boehner (Alex Wong/Getty Images)

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker John Boehner on Friday said that despite receiving a counter-proposal from the White House as part of a deal to avoid a series of automatic tax increases and spending cuts, no progress had been made between Republicans and Democrats.

"There's a stalemate, let's not kid ourselves," Boehner, a Republican from Ohio, told reporters during a news conference on Capitol Hill. "It's not a serious proposal. Right now we're almost nowhere."

The White House on Thursday sent Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to deliver a proposal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff by increasing taxes by $1.6 trillion over the next decade, including a $50 billion spending plan for mostly infrastructure spending and an offer of $400 billion reduction in spending on the federal government's Medicare program.

Republicans rejected it right out. Senate Majority Leader reportedly laughed in Geithner's face.

"Our original framework still stands," Boehner said the next day, reiterating his opposition to raising tax rates on on any income bracket. He added that he remains open to "closing loopholes [and] getting rid of special interest deductions" within the tax code to raise the same amount of revenue.

"I'm not trying to make this more difficult," he said. "You've watched me over the last three weeks; I've been very guarded in what I have to say. Because I don't want to make it harder for me our the president, or members of both parties to be able to find common ground."

While negotiators continue talks behind closed doors, both parties continue to engage in their own public relations tour to promote their own plans. President Barack Obama on Friday traveled to Pennsylvania and Republican lawmakers plan to meet with small business owners over the next few weeks.

Lindsay Lohan charged with assault in NYC

Lindsay Lohan was arrested this morning and charged with third-degree assault after a fight at a nightclub in the Chelsea section of New York City, police said.

The 26-year-old actress was arrested on the misdemeanor charge after she allegedly struck a woman at Club Avenue on 10th Avenue and 17th street at around 4 a.m. this morning. She was taken to New York's 10th precinct and received a desk appearance ticket, police told ABCNews.com. She was seen leaving the courtroom just after 7:30 a.m.

Lohan allegedly assaulted the woman during a dispute that escalated. The actress, a regular at the club, was banned from the establishment earlier this year following an incident in which she Tweeted that Justin Timberlake was seeing another woman at the club when he was dating Jessica Beall, WABC reported.

Thursday's arrest follows Lohan's previous arrest in September outside a nearby nightclub inside the Dream Hotel, when a pedestrian claimed the starlet hit him with her car and did not stop. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office declined to prosecute that case.

In late September Lohan was also involved in a hotel-room quarrel that began over a set of cell phone photos allegedly taken by a part time Congressional aide. After Lohan claimed the aide, Christian LaBella, had assaulted her, he was arrested, but the misdemeanor charges against him were later dropped.

On Sunday Lohan's Lifetime film "Liz & Dick," in which she portrays Elizabeth Taylor, premiered, and was watched by 3.5 million viewers, receiving scathing reviews. The film was positioned as the actress' comeback following years of trouble with the law.

While living in Los Angeles, the actress was incarcerated six times, but spent less than a total of two weeks behind bars. Last year she also spent 35 days under house arrest after pleading no contest to stealing a $2,500 necklace.

In March, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner took Lohan off probation from a 2007 DUI case. Over the past five years, the actress has been in and out of rehab five times as she has battled drug and alcohol problems.

GLHFCasting ? auto insurance-Sandwich

auto insurance Sandwich IL There are more cars on the road each year. As this number increases, the possibility of accidents also increases. The difference between a little aggravation and major pain can be car insurance. How can you decide what insurance you require and how you can buy it? Coverage requirements will differ by state/province, but usually include the following: Liability: This kind of insurance can pay for the damage that you have caused. These damages might include bodily injury, and property damage. Bodily injury damages can include medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Property damage can refer to car repair costs and loss of property use. It also covers your defense and court costs if you are sued. State laws usually require standard amounts of liability insurance, but larger amounts are available and usually recommended. Personal Injury Protection: Personal injury protection pays for all medical treatment for you or other people in your car, no matter who was responsible for the collision. It is occasionally referred to as no-fault coverage. The minimum amount of this insurance is typically set by local government. Medical Payments: Medical payment coverage is available in states that are not considered no-fault; it pays regardless of who carries responsibility for an accident. This insurance will pay for an insured person?s necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from an accident. Collision: Damages resulting from a car accident will be paid for under this kind of insurance. Comprehensive: This kind of insurance takes care of all damages not caused by a collision. This may include flood damage, vandalism, and theft. Uninsured Motorist: If you are hit by an uninsured driver, this type of insurance will make sure you are covered. Under-Insured Motorist: There are other drivers who have liability insurance that can?t pay for all the expenses they are responsible for. Under-insured motorist coverage protects you from those drivers. Other types of car insurance, like emergency road service, can also be purchased. What you pay for car insurance varies by company and will depend on multiple factors, including: * Which policies you choose * The make and model of the car you drive * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status * Where you live Some have come to think of car insurance as a necessary evil, but it is something you will need if you are ever in an accident. Evaluate your needs, do your research , and with the guidance of your insurance agency, choose the option that fits you best.

Boeing proposes mediation in talks with engineers union

(Reuters) - In a move that ratchets up tensions in labor negotiations, Boeing Co on Thursday asked for federal mediators to help unstick talks with the union that represents its 23,000 engineers, saying the sides were far apart on pay and benefits.

"We hope the expertise of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service can help move the two sides toward a resolution," Boeing said in a statement.

The move halted discussions around mid-day in Seattle and no further meetings are scheduled, the two sides said.

The breakdown in talks comes as Boeing is speeding up production from 52 jets a month, worth about $8 billion at list prices, to about 60 a month by the end of next year. The company cannot deliver jets without engineer sign-off.

The last time the union struck, in 2000, the company delivered 50 fewer jets that year, said analyst Scott Hamilton, of Leeham Co in Seattle.

The union has balked at a Boeing contract that the union says would cut the growth rate of salaries of professional and technical workers. Taken with cuts in other benefits and inflation, it could cut employees take-home pay, the union says.

Boeing says its latest offer is much improved over its opening proposal, and reflects a tough competitive environment.

Spokesman Doug Alder said company negotiators made the proposal at the end of what he described as a "frustrating" and "contentious" two-hour negotiating session with the union on Thursday. It was the third of three meetings scheduled this week.

He said Boeing was surprised when the union came back with an even more demanding counter-offer - seeking 6 percent pay increases, up from 5 percent in the current contract - despite the fact that the company had come in with an improved offer.

Boeing's new offer of four-year contracts would give professional engineers, one of two bargaining units, annual pay raises of 4.5 percent in the first and third years, and 4 percent in each of the other two years. That's up from 3.5 percent per year in the company's previous offer.

"Both sides are going to need to move," Alder told Reuters. "For them to go above the current offer, just shows you how far apart we are."

Alder said Thursday's meeting included "contentious discussions about salaries," prompting Boeing negotiators to call for a mediator.

Ray Goforth, SPEEA executive director, said in an email to Reuters that the union was dismayed that Boeing left talks on Thursday without committing to further negotiation dates. He added that SPEEA has been in contact with federal mediators.

"SPEEA is willing to consider any option to avoid a work stoppage," Goforth said.

The two sides differed on how the meeting broke up.

Alder said Thursday's meeting "ended normally, just as every other negotiating session has. The assertion that we walked out - I don't know where they get that. It ended with them saying they would have to get back to us on mediation."

Bill Dugovich, a SPEEA spokesman, said, "It did not end normally. We were asking questions and Boeing stood up and walked out. This was a surprise to us. We were fully engaged in negotiations. Our team is still in the building now going through issues."

Since the contract expired Sunday, the union has been technically able to strike. But it must first ask members to vote to authorize a strike.

"Right now, we're still a ways away from any kind of labor action like that," Dugovich said. " That wouldn't happen before the holidays."

In an update on its website on Thursday, SPEEA said Boeing negotiators restated a belief that union members were overpaid and added that union proposals were looking to align pay "to the value we bring to Boeing."

Before the meeting in Seattle, Dennis Muilenburg, president and chief executive of Boeing Defense Space & Security, told Wall Street investors that the two sides were engaged in productive discussions and he expected them to reach agreement eventually.

Muilenburg told an investor conference hosted by Credit Suisse that he had "a great deal of respect" for the engineering team in Seattle that is represented by the union, noting that he had begun his career as an engineer there.

Alder said the talks were at a critical juncture, and Boeing wanted to bring a mediator in as soon as possible.

"We feel it's important to get a mediator in sooner rather than later before one side gets locked into a particular position," he said, noting that Boeing had used mediators in the past and found them to be productive.
