If Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention showcased many of the new faces of the Republican Party - including Mia Love, the Utah congressional candidate, and Ted Cruz, the Texas Senate candidate - today will bring some of the GOP old guard clearly into public view, featuring a slew of sitting senators and former members of the Bush administration.
But the old hands might bring fresh criticism of President Obama onto the stage. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, for instance, is the lead-off speaker during prime time today and will unleash a barrage of criticisms and one-liners on Obama, attacking what he sees as failed policies, according to excerpts obtained by ABC News.
"We're here this week for the simple reason that our nation is in desperate need of leadership," the 27-year Kentucky senator will say, according to the excerpt. "And we believe Mitt Romney is the man for the moment."
McConnell, 70, has been a thorn in the side of the White House. With few exceptions, he kept Republicans in the Senate united against the White House even when Democrats controlled the House and had a nearly filibuster-proof majority during the first two years of the Obama administration.
It was McConnell who famously said in 2010 that his party's singular focus would be to make Obama a one-term president.
"As we meet here tonight, America is suffering through an economic calamity of truly historic dimensions," McConnell will say. "Some are calling it the slowest recovery in our nation's entire 236-year history. To call this a recovery is an insult to recoveries."
The pointed speech will go on from there to criticize the president's penchant for playing golf on the weekend, a subject on which GOP Ohio Gov. John Kasich also touched Tuesday.
"For four years, Barack Obama has been running from the nation's problems," McConnell will say. "He hasn't been working to earn re-election. He's been working to earn a spot on the PGA tour."
And he'll make fun of a string of recent interviews the president has given to celebrity and entertainment magazines while avoiding the White House press corps.
"We know what the president's got on his iPod, but we don't know what he plans to do about a looming tax hike that could trigger yet another serious recession that would result in even more Americans losing their jobs. Ladies and Gentlemen: America cannot afford another four years of this."
Back on policy, McConnell, alluding to the "We built this" theme of the convention, will repeat his argument that the president has a sort of European socialism in mind for America.
"What this administration has in mind for America isn't a renewal, it's a great leveling out," he'll say, pointing to debt and entitlement problems in Europe.
"It wants the kind of government-imposed equality that in a single generation transformed Western Europe from a place where for centuries high achievement and discovery and innovation were celebrated and prized, to a place where they have elections about whether people should have to work. Where they make promises they can't keep and write checks they can't cash."

A question for brand marketers: Is being first worth the time and attention? Google wasn?t the first search-engine, Facebook wasn?t the first social network, and Windows wasn?t the first operating system. Second-movers often wait out innovations introduced by competitors, monitor the success of that innovation, and then offer their own version which is often more successful than the original innovation. This ?lead by following? pattern has huge implications for brand marketers who are heading into a future of major changes. Discovery and invention will be needed, but they must be balanced by patience to scan and modesty to imitate. They will need boldness and reserve to ensure an opportunity to lead.

WASHINGTON ? General Motors is recalling 249,260 2006-2007 model-year SUVs originally sold or currently registered in states where winter use of road salts and other materials heightens the risk of corrosion.
The recall covers the following vehicles:
In these vehicles, fluid may enter the driver?s door module, causing corrosion that could lead to a short in the circuit board. A short may cause the power door lock and power window switches to function intermittently or to stop functioning altogether. The short may also cause overheating, which poses a fire risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.?
Dealers will notify vehicle owners of the recall and the remedy plan.

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Isaac bore down on the U.S. Gulf Coast on Tuesday, packing swirling winds and rain and posing a major test of the region's new flood control systems seven years after Hurricane Katrina sent walls of water crashing across its shoreline.
Rain and tropical storm force winds were expected to spread into the region in the coming hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, as computer forecast models increasingly showed the storm likely to make landfall late on Tuesday near southeastern Louisiana as a full-blown hurricane.
Isaac appeared to be taking direct aim at New Orleans, which would be a cruel blow for a city still struggling to recover from Hurricane Katrina which swept across the city almost exactly 7 years ago on August 29, 2005, killing more than 1,800 people and causing billions of dollars of damage.
Authorities encouraged thousands of residents in low-lying areas to evacuate, warning the storm could flood towns and cities in at least three U.S. Gulf Coast states with a storm surge of up to 12 feet.
Isaac also threatened heavy rainfall, with possibly as much as 18 inches (46 cms) in areas, potentially triggering flooding in some coastal areas.
The storm was forecast to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane, the lowest on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity, with top winds of 90 miles per hour. While that would be well below the intensity of Katrina, a powerful Category 3 storm, the vast size of Isaac's slow-moving system has forecasters predicting widespread flooding.
"Even if it is a tropical storm at landfall, the large size of it will still generate significant storm surge," Hurricane Center Director Rick Knabb told reporters. "That is life-threatening potentially."
Residents in coastal communities from Louisiana to Mississippi stocked up on food and water and tried to secure their homes, cars and boats.
In New Orleans, a bumper-to-bumper stream of vehicles left the city on a highway toward Baton Rouge in search of higher ground. Others prepared, or were forced, to ride the storm out.
"Our flights were canceled so we're going to be here," said Karen Foley, a 23-year-old tourist who had planned to travel home to New Jersey with a friend. "We are just hoping the city doesn't get hit again. It doesn't deserve it," she said.
Along Canal Street in New Orleans' historic French Quarter, crews were boarding up the windows of some stores and businesses.
"I'm not all that concerned about the storm. It's still a Category 1," said Charles Neeley, a 69-year-old contractor overseeing workers covering the windows of a CVS drugstore.
"We usually ride out ones and twos, and get the hell out for threes and fours."
Nonetheless, Neeley said he'd taken care to stock up on food and water at home and fuel his generator.
Isaac was centered 145 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River early Tuesday with top sustained winds of 70 miles per hour - a speed that places the storm very near hurricane status - and swirling northwest at 12 mph.
The storm was more than 400 miles wide and Craig Fugate, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said the worst effects may well be in Mississippi and Alabama.
TESTING THE LEVEES
After Katrina, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a $14.5 billion defense flood system of walls, floodgates, levees and pumps designed to protect the city against a massive tidal surge like the one that swamped New Orleans in Katrina's wake seven years ago.
Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who led post-Katrina recovery efforts, said the levees and the level of local government preparedness are "a different story" from 2007.
"But on any given day Mother Nature can beat us," he told CNN, warning the storm could be potent. Isaac has "the capacity to turn the lights out in New Orleans," he said.
In low-lying Plaquemines Parish, which could be the first to be lashed by Isaac's winds and storm surge, workers scrambled to stack sandbags and reinforce levees as Isaac lurked in the Gulf.
Much of the parish lies outside the greater New Orleans levee system, and construction projects to bolster protection are not yet complete.
"We're really worried about the storm surge. We really need a few more years before we see an event like this," said Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser.
Energy companies evacuated offshore oil rigs and shut down U.S. Gulf Coast refineries as the storm threatened to batter the country's oil refining belt.
Oil firms ferried workers in helicopters from oil platforms hundreds of miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
As a precaution, as of Monday afternoon, the energy industry had shut down 78 percent of Gulf of Mexico crude production and 48 percent of its natural gas production, government figures showed.
Despite the threat to the U.S. offshore oil patch, which produces about 23 percent of the country's oil output and 7 percent of its natural gas, prices for international benchmark Brent crude traded down $1.24 to $112.35 a barrel in late Monday activity.
Once ashore, the storm could wreak havoc on low-lying fuel refineries along the Gulf Coast that account for about 40 percent of U.S. refining capacity.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said President Barack Obama approved his state's request for a federal disaster declaration, on Monday. Obama's approval, given in a phone call that included the governors of Mississippi and Alabama, makes federal funds available for disaster recovery activities like clearing debris.
The ports of Mobile and New Orleans were closed and barge traffic was suspended along southern portions of the Mississippi River.
Isaac killed at least 22 people and caused significant flooding and damage in Haiti and the Dominican Republic before skirting the southern tip of Florida on Sunday.

On Thursday, March 15, 2012, a female IDF soldier was stabbed and seriously wounded while riding the Jerusalem light rail. 19-year-old Muhmad Shuman got onto the train at the Shuafat station, taking an empty seat opposite the IDF soldier who later became the victim.
In the 1:13 minute video released this week taken from the train?s security cameras, the attacker is seen stabbing the 18-year-old soldier and then getting off the train. He was eventually apprehended as he tried fleeing to PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas by border police at the Kalandia Checkpoint in the northern capital.
The solder arrived in the trauma center of Shaare Zedek Medical Center in serious condition, having lost significant blood volume from the stab wounds to her chest.
Shuman told interrogators that following the attack he returned to his eastern Jerusalem home and then decided to board an Arab bus for Ramallah to his mother?s home. He was apprehended en route. The perpetrator insists the attack was not premeditated, and that he was ?influenced by actions movies?, explaining when he got up and headed for school that morning, he found the knife in a garment from last year. He began playing with it and after arriving at school, boarded the train back towards his home and when he saw the soldier, decided to make his move. The train arrived at a stop and he stabbed her twice and then walked off at the station.
According to Shuman?s attorney, the charges of attempted murder are absurd and a modified indictment of ?assault? is in order since ?My client is a good boy from a good home and he is an excellent student?, insisting his client never really intended to kill anyone.
The daily Maariv reports that either the passengers were unaware of the attack or they remained complacent with the exception of ?a chareidi woman? who ran for assistance, the others did not move to assist the soldier who was bleeding to death.

Lack of exercise and obesity are the top two health concerns for U.S. children, according to adults who took part in a newly released national survey.
The respondents were asked to identify the 10 biggest health concerns for children in their communities, and 39 percent said it was lack of exercise, 38 percent said obesity and 34 percent said smoking and tobacco use.
The remaining top concerns listed in the poll from the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital were: drug abuse (33 percent), bullying (29 percent), stress (27 percent), alcohol abuse (23 percent), teen pregnancy (23 percent), Internet safety (22 percent) and child abuse and neglect (20 percent).
?Childhood obesity remains a top concern, and adults know it is certainly linked to lack of exercise,? poll director Dr. Matthew Davis, associate professor of pediatrics and internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and associate professor of public policy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, said in a university news release.
?The strong perception that lack of exercise is a threat to children?s health may reflect effective recent public health messages from programs such as First Lady Michelle Obama?s ?Let?s Move? campaign,? he suggested. ?But exercise offers many more benefits other than weight loss or preventing obesity ? such as better attention and learning in school and improved sense of well-being.?
The poll?s results varied based on respondents? race and ethnicity. Hispanic adults were more likely to rate obesity as a greater risk (44 percent) than lack of exercise (38 percent), and also rated drug abuse higher than smoking and tobacco use.

YOLA, Nigeria (AP) ? An emergency management official in northeast Nigeria says 10 people were killed in floods that swept through the region.
Adamawa state Emergency Management Agency official Shadrach Daniel Baruk said others remained trapped by the flooding Sunday.
Baruk blamed the release of water from a dam in the neighboring nation of Cameroon for the flood. He said heavy rainfall in the rural region of farms and cattle ranches also contributed to the deadly deluge. He said thousands of people had been displaced.
The flooding in Adamawa state comes as flooding recently killed at least 68 people in Plateau state in central Nigeria.
Nigeria is experiencing its annual rainy season, which sees torrential rains fall throughout the West African nation.

Kelly said Johnson was a designer of women's accessories at Hazan Imports until he was laid off in a downsizing.
Johnson bought the .45-caliber gun used in the shooting in 1991 in Florida, two law enforcement souces told NBC News. He was not licensed to carry arms in New York, they said.
He was wearing a gray suit and carrying a briefecase when he gunned down Ercolino, officials said.
Ercolino, who lived in?Warwick, N.Y., was the father of a young boy, neighbors there told NBC News.
Zoraida Mora, a co-worker of Ercolino, told NBC News,??Out of respect for the family I only can say he was (a) wonderful friend (and) coworker and it was a pleasure working with him and he surely will be missed!!!?

Through photos and tweets, witnesses show chaos outside Empire State Building?
?
Witnesses described a chaotic scene Friday morning on streets crowded with tourists and commuters alike.
"People were yelling 'Get down! Get down!", said Marc Engel, an accountant who was on a bus in the area when he heard the shots. "It took about 15 seconds, a lot of 'pop, pop, pop, pop, one shot after the other."
Fatal workplace attacks rare, getting rarer
"I heard pop, pop, pop, pop, and I ran back into my offices,? Gloria Walker, another witness,?told NBC News. "I ran, I ran, I ran."
The brother of a woman who was shot in the leg told reporters she had been heading to Dunkin' Donuts when she heard the gunfire. While trying to decide whether she should duck or run, she was struck, her brother said.
"She's fine -- just a little shook up," he said. "Other than that, she's fine."
Those hurt ranged in age from 20 to 56. A tourist from North Carolina was among them.
The FDNY told NBC News they responded to a call about the shooting at Fifth Avenue and 34th Street at 9:07 a.m. Friday and arrived at 9:13 a.m. The body of the gunman remained on the street, under a white sheet, in front of Heartland Brewery until it was taken to the city medical examiner's office around noon.
The Empire State Building operators said the building was not involved in the shooting and remained open.
Gloria Walker describes witnessing the shooting at the Empire State Building to WNBC: "It was pandemonium."
NBC News' Miranda Leitsinger, Andrew Mach and Jim Gold also contributed to this report.

Most of us think of our career as a never ending job, a long-lasting pattern of work. However, a career merely implies specialized growth and development to build skill and expertise over a time period, where one transfers from a beginner to expert within a specific turf.
As the great philosopher Confucius once said ?Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.? I?m sure most of us think it?s easier said than done. However, in today?s world, where we have ample career choices, doing so may not be that challenging.
One of the most conspicuous professions nowadays is getting involved in E-Commerce. In layman terms, E-commerce is the purchasing and selling of product and services by companies and customers over the internet. Sales over the internet are increasing quickly as the customers take advantage of the relatively lower priced products offered to them. For instance, if you want to buy a pair of shoes, all you need to do is login to an online shoe store, where you will get numerous choices on the designs, sizes, prices etc. making your shopping more easier and convenient!
Since online shopping is one of the most persuasive and viral trends these days, many of us must be wondering who operates and updates these websites every other day. It is the responsibility of an E-Commerce Administrator to manage and oversee the employees who generate, implement and perform the continuous maintenance of the data on an active E-commerce department which includes the merchandise, cost and pricing, the clients and the stock. An E-commerce Administrator plays a key role in maintaining and fulfilling both the content and marketing purposes. The E-commerce administrator?s key duties include the day to day supervision of the website including pricing updates, merchandise data organization and image updates. He communicates and coordinates these changes to the web team. An E-Commerce Administrator is the link between the suppliers, the organization and an active marketing department.
To achieve these goals, the E-Commerce Administrator must develop a strategic plan that is in line with the company?s general mission statement to sell merchandises or services online.
Now, to become an E-Commerce Administrator, one needs certain qualifications and credentials. A bachelor?s degree in marketing, knowledge about internet marketing and information on general management is essential. If the applicant has a strong background in website design, search engine marketing, HTML coding etc. his chances of landing an E-Commerce Administrator position increases. Furthermore, a degree in Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus in Information Technology or Marketing is ideal.
It may not be as easy as it seems, to become an E-Commerce Administrator. Usually, companies look for applicants with several years of administrative and development experience and skills using Information Technology (IT) systems or the internet in general. To prepare for this post, applicants and aspirants must acquaint themselves with the various E-Commerce business models, HTML coding and contemplate on attaining project development and management or equivalent certificates. Thus, in order to get into this field, undergraduates, freshly graduates and/or internet savvy people need to start gaining knowledge and experience in this field.
As mentioned previously, E-commerce is on the rise and will continue to grow in future. As more and more organizations and businesses instigate online ordering facility, the role of the E-Commerce Administrator is becoming an important part of the corporation?s functioning and success. Earlier, E-commerce was restricted to only business-to-consumer models. However now, business-to-business corporations have begun to consume online purchasing as a convenient and efficient way to nurture their market share.

Benefit to businesses Every manager knows there is nothing worse than an electrical failure causing your team to down tools during the working day. Time, money and productivity are lost, and commotion is caused in day-to-day activities. 24-hour electricians allow businesses to schedule regular servicing of their systems out of office hours. This causes minimal disruption to productivity, improves output and reduces the risk of failures during the working day.
Benefit to homeowners Calling an electrician out in the evening rather than during the working day suits homeowners who work full-time themselves. And people feel much more comfortable being at home while a tradesperson is in their house. As well as improving security, a 24-hour service is more convenient, allowing people to schedule electrical maintenance around their own personal schedule. Jobs that are often put off due to work commitments can now be completed.

Is an intent to use trademark application enough to win a UDRP complaint? According to this freak?decision, yes. Panelist Dr. Clive N.A. Trotman has a very good track record of fair decisions under the UDRP but this time he went too far in order to find in favor of the Complainant Citrix Online LLC of California. I have never before seen a similar decision. If anyone has seen one please contact me.
Here is the time line of the events:
The Complainant Citrix Online LLC filed an ?Intent To Use? application for the mark ?GOTOTRAINING? at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on March 10, 2008.
Respondent Ramalinga Reddy Sanikommu Venkata registered the domain name gototraining.net on August 5, 2009.
The Complainant first used the mark? ?GOTOTRAINING? on February 16, 2010. This is according to their statement filed at the?United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The trade mark ?GOTOTRAINING? was registered with USPTO on ?June 22, 2010. (registration No. 3,807,572)
The Complaint for the domain name gototraining.net was filed with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center on June 29, 2012.
The Complainant states that it has a pending Indian trademark application for GOTOTRAINING, application No. 2091680.
The complainant registered the domain name gototraining.com on December 2007 and also has many other registered trademark at USPTO such as ?GOTOMYPC? that was registered on October 14, 2003 but unfortunately these facts should have been irrelevant to these proceedings.
What is an ?intent to use? trademark?
If you have not yet used the trademark, but plan to do so in the future, you may file an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) based on a good faith or bona fide intention to use the trademark in interstate commerce. You do not have to use the trademark before you file your federal trademark application. Later on in the application process, you will need to file proof of using your trademark in interstate commerce. A total of five extensions, each lasting six months in duration, may be granted by the USPTO before proof of use in interstate commerce is required. Each extension incurs additional filing fees.
Filing of the Intent To Use trademark application does not itself automatically give an applicant trademark rights that can be enforced against third parties. Rather, it provides the applicant the ability to obtain trademark rights that have a priority date as of the application filing date even though the applicant did not start using the mark until a later date. In this case first use date is after the registration of the disputed domain name. In other words, the applicant would not be able to enforce any trademark rights against third parties until after the applicant had actually used the mark as a trademark.
The Panelist went fact though the first elements of the UDRP, ?Identical or Confusingly Similar? and ?Rights or Legitimate Interests?, finding in favor of the Complainant. Then Panelist went on to the 3rd element (Registered and Used in Bad Faith). He said that there was no evidence of any intended use of the disputed domain name, or of the Respondent having any business related to the website content. The Respondent?s immediate reply to the Complainant?s cease and desist letter, by inviting an offer to buy, largely negated any possible implication by the Respondent of having a bona fide commitment to the disputed domain name.
This comment would have been suitable for the 2nd element of the UDRP ??Rights or Legitimate Interests? and I don?t understand why Panelist put it in the 3rd section.
Then the Panel went very far to conclude on the balance of probabilities that the Respondent, having registered the disputed domain name, then dressed it with a token but inactive website content in order to create a visible presence on the Internet, that action did not convert a passive holding of a disputed domain name into an active holding. Panel said that Respondent?s avoidance of any direct placement of the disputed domain name for sale at a nominated price, and the avoidance of naming a price in reply to a cease and desist letter, do not circumvent the spirit and intent of paragraph 4(b)(i) of the Policy, so the Panel found that the cumulative evidence was sufficient to conclude that the disputed domain name has been used in bad faith.
Then the Panel tried to prove the ?registration in bad faith? part of the 3rd element which was actually impossible to prove as the registration of the domain name predated the first use AND the registration of the mark ?GOTOTRAINING?.?The Panelist improperly used an intent to use trademark application to twist the facts and find in favor of the Complainant.?
Here is what the Panelist said and in the end ordered that the disputed domain name gototraining.net be transferred to the Complainant:
In terms of registration, the Respondent acquired the disputed domain name on August 5, 2009. The Complainant?s trademark GOTOTRAINING was granted registration at the USPTO on June 22, 2010, with first use claimed for February 16, 2010 and the application having been filed on March 10, 2008. Thus, the Complainant?s trademark was granted registration after the disputed domain name was registered, but application for the trademark pre-dated the Respondent?s acquisition of the disputed domain name.
The simple dates are not definitive, however. Registration in bad faith may be found where, on the balance of probabilities, it is reasonable to conclude that a Respondent knew or ought to have known that the proposed domain name would conflict with the intellectual properties of another party.
Paragraph 2 of the Policy imposes upon a registrant the requirement, inter alia, that ?to your knowledge, the registration of the domain name will not infringe upon or otherwise violate the rights of any third party? and further states ?It is your responsibility to determine whether your domain name registration infringes or violates someone else?s rights?.
The Respondent could have searched the relevant USPTO trademark application registry and should have found the Complainant?s application in respect of GOTOTRAINING. More pertinently, it is noted that the Complainant held trademarks registered between 2001 and 2006 for constructs commencing in the style GOTO, although contrary to its reference to ?the GOTO trademarks?, the Complainant has not produced any evidence of any rights in a trademark GOTO standing alone.
In reaching a decision in terms of bad faith registration, the Panel has reviewed the totality of the evidence, including the long previous existence of the Complainant?s related trademarks GOTOMEETING, GOTOWEBINAR, GOTOMYPC and GOTOASSIST. The Complainant?s application for the trademark GOTOTRAINING was a matter of public record more than 16 months before the Respondent acquired the disputed domain name. The Complainant?s businesses of facilitating web-based assistance, and the training facilitation projected by the Respondent?s holding page, have broad similarities. It may reasonably be expected that the Respondent, in selecting a domain name for a business, would have conducted elementary searches and would have noted the pre-existence and unavailability of <gototraining.com> and the fact that it had been registered by the Complainant in December 2007.
Having regard to all the evidence the Panel finds the disputed domain name to have been registered and used in bad faith in the terms of paragraph 4(a)(iii) of the Policy.

Quayle (1966-68), one of the top running backs in Virginia history, set more than 20 ACC offensive records in his three seasons in Charlottesville including, at the time, the single-season rushing mark of 1,213 yards in 1968. That year, he was named the ACC Football Player of the Year and, as also a standout in lacrosse, the ACC?s Athlete of the Year and winner of the McKevlin Award. His impressive 6.93 per-carry average in 1968 is still the third-best per-carry mark by an ACC back with over 1,000 or more yards in a single season. Quayle led the nation in 1966 in all-purpose yardage and he still holds the ACC all-purpose career per-game record (166.0). Holt (1995-98), one of the top receivers in ACC history, was named ACC Football Player of the Year in 1998 after setting league single-season records of 88 pass receptions and 1,604 receiving yards in just 11 games. Holt?s record of 1,604 receiving yards still stands as the ACC?s single-season record and his per-game average for that year (145.8) is still the 8th-best mark in NCAA FBS history. A two-time first-team All-ACC selection for head coach Mike O?Cain, his average of 8.0 receptions per game is an ACC single-season mark and his total of 88 catches that year is still the 2nd-best in league history. A consensus All-America in 1998, he ranks 2nd on the ACC?s career receiving yardage list with 3,379 yards. He then played one year for the Chicago Bears (1970), five with the New York Giants (1971-75), returned to Green Bay for one year (1976) before finishing his career with the New England Patriots (1977). He completed his professional career with 202 receptions for 2,879 yards and 20 touchdowns. In 1984 he was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame. In 2003, Cunningham was the only tight end chosen to the ACC?s 50th Anniversary Team in 2003, as one of the Top 50 players in league history. He was also the recipient of Clemson?s Frank Howard Award for 1974-75, as the top student-athlete who brought honor to Clemson. A native of Seneca, S.C., he currently resides in Westminster, S.C.
Cowart (1993-97) was a hard-hitting linebacker who played on four ACC Championship teams for coach Bobby Bowden at Florida State and was a key reserve on the Seminoles 1993 National Championship squad. He led FSU in tackles as a junior in 1995 (115) and as a senior in 1997 (116) after sitting out the 1996 season with a knee injury. In 1997, he was named a consensus first-team All-America, was a finalist for both the Butkus Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and was named National Defensive Player of the Year by the Football News. The 1997 Florida State defense set a school record in rushing defense, allowing just 1.5 yards per rush. That year, Cowart was also honored as the winner of the ACC?s Brian Piccolo Award for Courage. The 39th selection in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, Cowart went on to an eight-year NFL career with Buffalo, the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. He started 87 NFL games, playing in 100, and made 715 career tackles. He was named All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl after the 2000 season. He was inducted into the Florida State Hall of Fame in 2011. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., he currently lives in his hometown.
Swilling (1988-91) a hard-hitting safety and one of the leaders of Georgia Tech?s 1990 National Championship team, lettered for years for head coach Bobby Ross. A 3rd-team All-America as a sophomore in 1989, he earned consensus first-team All-America honors in 1990 as the Jackets were named national champions by the UPI Coaches poll. A two-time first-team All-ACC selection (1989-1990), he keyed Tech?s defense from his free safety position and led the ACC in pass interceptions with five in 1990. He led Tech to a 16-game non-losing streak, including a stretch in the 1989 and 1990 seasons where the Jackets won 18 of 20 games. He completed his career with 13 career interceptions, returning them for 239 yards, including two for touchdowns. The 13 picks are tied for the 5th-best total for a Tech player. As a sophomore in 1989, he became the first ACC player to return an intercepted conversion attempt?a 99-yard return versus Duke?for a two-point defensive conversion. That same year he had interception returns for TDs of 72 and 95 yards. He finished his career with 267 tackles, the second-highest total by a defensive back in Tech history. A seventh-round selection in the 1991 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, he played one season in the NFL with Cleveland. Hanulak (1951-53), one of the most explosive runners of his era, set an ACC single-season record for highest per-carry rushing average in the league?s first season in 1953 that still stands today. Hanulak averaged 9.78 yards per carry (minimum of 65.0 yards per game) that year in leading Maryland to a 10-1 record and the Terps first National Championship (both AP and UPI) in football. Nicknamed ?Chet the Jet? for his outstanding speed, Hanulak led the ACC in rushing in 1953 with 753 yards in his only season in the league. He still holds the Terrapin record for career yards per carry (8.13) and ranks 20th on the Terps career rushing list with 1,544 yards. A three-time letterman for Maryland (1951-52-53), he earned second-team All-America (International News Service) and first-team All-ACC honors in 1953. The 24th overall selection in the second round of the 1954 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, he played two seasons in the NFL with Cleveland in 1954 and 1957. A two sport (baseball) standout for the Terps, he was inducted into the Maryland Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. A native of Hackensack, N.J., he currently resides in Salisbury, Md.
Bly (1996-98) is the only player in North Carolina history to be named a three-time, first-team All-America. He was a first-team All-America as a redshirt freshman in 1996 (AP, Walter Camp) and earned consensus All-America honors in 1997 and 1998 for head coaches Mack Brown (1996-97) and Carl Torbush (1998). One of the best cover corners in ACC history, Bly led the nation and set an ACC single-season record with 11 interceptions in his freshman season of 1996. The record stood until this past season when NC State?s David Amerson topped it. He still shares, with Amerson, the ACC mark for most interceptions per game in a season (1.00) and his 20 career interceptions, at the time an ACC record, still ranks second on the ACC career list. A three-time letterman, he helped lead the Tar Heels to a 28-8 mark during his time in Chapel Hill. A three-time first-team All-ACC selection, Bly was the 41st overall selection in the second round of the 1999 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. He went on to an 11-year NFL career with St. Louis, Detroit, Denver and San Francisco. While with St. Louis, he helped the Rams to win Super Bowl XXXIV and reach Super Bowl XXXVI. He was twice named to the NFL?s Pro Bowl (2003, 2004) and earned All-Pro honors in 2003. In his 11 years in the NFL, he totaled 419 tackles and 43 career interceptions. In 2003, he was named to the ACC?s 50th Anniversary Football team. A native of Chesapeake, Va., he currently resides in Charlotte, N.C.
Prioleau (1995-98) was one of the leaders of the salty Virginia Tech defenses of the mid-to-late1990s. He lettered four times for head coach Frank Beamer, helping Tech to a 26-12 four-year record that included four consecutive bowl games. A three-year starter, he totaled 237 career tackles and had two returns for touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Big East in 1997 and earned third-team All-America honors (The Sporting News) that year. As a senior, he led a defense that led the Big East in scoring defense, allowing just 12.9 points per game. A fourth-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in the 1999 NFL Draft, Prioleau played 12 seasons in the National Football League for San Francisco, Buffalo, Washington, Jacksonville and New Orleans. He was a member of the Saints? championship team in Super Bowl XLIV. Prioleau was also a first cousin of former ACC Legend and Georgia Tech All-America Joe Hamilton. A native of Alvin, S.C., he currently lives in Radford, Va.
Stetz (1969-71) was one of the most productive linebackers in Wake Forest history and, pound-for-pound, one of the most prolific tacklers in ACC lore. Stetz set single-season school records for the Deacons in career tackles (460), single-season tackles (203) and career solo tackles (271), despite a playing weight of just over 200 pounds. When Stetz completed his career in 1971, the 460 tackles were also an ACC career record. The lynchpin of Wake defenses of 1969, 1970 and 1971, he helped the Deacons to their first ACC football title in 1970 for head coach Cal Stoll. He still ranks 16th on the ACC career tackle list and also holds the Wake Forest single-game record for tackles with 29 hits against Clemson in 1971, as well as the season mark for tackles per game of 18.5 in 1971. He was twice named first-team All-ACC in 1970 and 1971 and played in the Blue-Gray All-Star game. A native of Johnstown, Pa., he currently resides in his hometown.
