Happy Halloween! Now let's talk holiday shopping
More consumers are looking beyond Black Friday to get the best bang for their buck. NBC's Chris Clackum reports.

Even as most kids are still sorting through their trick or treat bags, major retailers are already turning their attention toward another favorite time of year for kids: The winter holidays.
The holiday shopping season ? long crucial to most retailers? financial success or failure ? is starting earlier and earlier, especially online.
As of Halloween morning, retailers such as Amazon.com and Toyrus.com are already featuring holiday toys lists prominently on their home pages. Wal-Mart?s website was touting ways to get your home ready for the holidays alongside a last-minute Halloween costume promotion.
In all, the National Retail Federation said more than six in 10 online retailers were starting holiday promotions before Halloween.
Some may grouse about seeing Christmas trees in October, but a significant minority of shoppers do start? thinking early?about holiday shopping. Retail analysts at NPD Group expect that more than two in 10 shoppers will start their holiday shopping by Thanksgiving, a slight increase from last year.
Nearly four in 10 plan to do holiday shopping online, about the same as last year, according to NPD.
Still, the presidential election ? and more recently, Superstorm Sandy ? are probably a bigger distraction to people right now. C. Britt Beemer, a retail analyst with America's Research Group, said his recent polling has found that to be the case.
"Over half the country said they had to get through this presidential election before they could even think about Christmas," he said.
The early promotions - along with other discounts, free shipping deals and limited-time offers - are among the ways online-only retailers are trying to get an edge over traditional retailers' promotions such as Black Friday.
For retailers with both an online and a physical presence, experts say it's a way to?entice shoppers to buy from them whether they are at the mall, using their smart phone or on their laptop.?
"They?re really starting ot realize that it?s a total picture. You can?t just pay attention to online or brick and mortar," said Vicki Cantrell, executive director of shop.org, the digital division of the National Retail Federation.
There are good deals to be had online, especially as we get closer to the holidays. But Beemer said consumers can still expect to get a good deal the old-fashioned way: By getting up really, really?early on Black Friday and heading to?a traditional store.
"There?s nothing better than those early bird specials," he said.
But Black Friday may not be such a good deal for those who aren't willing to wake up at the crack of dawn, and cost-conscious consumers have gotten more savvy about using online tools to compare prices and hold out for the best deal.
Cantrell said consumers are increasingly thinking of the period from Thanksgiving day to the Monday after Thanksgiving as an elongated shopping period, where they may shop online or in person, depending on what is cheapest and most convenient.
Overall, experts are predicting a decent holiday season as consumers grow a little less nervous about the economy, The National Retail Federation is estimating that sales will increase 4.1 percent, to $586.1 billion.

In the first part of the guide we took on the most straight forward challenges of Dishonored. Now it?s time to earn some more trophies-achievements and the ones covered here are definitely trickier to get. Let?s get down to business, folks!
Collectibles related
To obtain this trophy-achievement you need to collect 10 bone charms. To get one you must first equip the heart to know if there are any charms in the area: once located, just go and pick it up. You don?t have to get all 10 on a single mission since there can?t 10 charms in a single mission. If you already have completed a game, just replay any mission and get any bone charm available. Once you get the tenth, you?ll get the trophy-achievement
Things are getting trickier now: you have to collect all 11 Sokolov paintings in the game in a single playthrough so if you completed the game, you have to start again. The good news is that being only eleven, the paintings aren?t scattered on every mission.
Here are the locations of the Sokolov paintings:
- Mission 2, one painting in the High Overseer?s secret room.
- Mission 3, three paintings in the art?s dealer apartment. You can only obtain them after completing the Slackjaw side missions because you need the safe?s combination.
- Mission 4, one painting in the apartment below Sokolo?v study.
- Mission 5, one painting is in the place where you discover Lady Boyle?s identity, another one is at the top floor surrounded by other pieces of art.
- Mission 6, one painting in the Lord Regent?s room near the fireplace. First you have to identify it then go through and turn around.
- Mission 7, one painting is in an abandoned building with a single sweep, another one is near the exit of assassin?s HQ and the third one can be found if you have completed the Slackjaw?s and Granny Rag?s side missions.
Stealth related
To get this you need to pickpocket a total of 200 coins. To pickpocket an enemy get behind him and press the square button on the Ps3 version and the X button on the Xbox 360 version. The fastest way to get this trophy-achievement is during the first mission. Pickpocket as many guards as you can and you?ll get it.
You can get these two together: Shadow is for completing all missions without alerting anyone, Ghost is for completing all missions without alerting and killing anyone, except for key targets. To make things harder you have to do this in a single playthrough! When I say alerting anyone, I?m referring to guards, weepers, assassins, thugs and dogs: you know if an enemy has been alerted when the three exclamation points over his head have turned red. This is one of the hardest trophies of the game, so you better be armed with a LOT of patience!
These two can ge obtained together as well: Faceless is for completing a single mission without alarming enemies, Specter is for completing a mission without alarming anyone and killing less than 5 enemies. I got both after the second mission, just remember to be always extra cautious.
Simply kill 10 unaware enemies: enter sneak mode, get behind and terminate them. Pretty easy huh?
These can be obtained together since Surgical involves killing less than 10 enemies from the beginning of the game through mission 4 and Clean Hands involves completing the full game without any kill in a single playthrough! It?s Dishonored?s hardest trophy-achievement and there?s no real strategy: my advice is to save often, get as many sleep darts as you can and power up the dark vision ability as soon as you can.
You need to escape the sewers undetected in the first mission of the game. This can be annoying without having access to supernatural abilities. Just make sure to be extra cautious and you?ll do it with patience.
You have to complete the Boyle estate mission without alerting the guards and killing the key target. You can do it easily by killing silently the 3 sisters, since the target is different every playthrough
This one is pretty straight forward too: show those assassins who?s the real boss! Killing one of them silently will do the trick.
In the last stealth related trophy-achievement you have to neutralize the 4 key targets of the game with non lethal means. You can find out how to do it by listening to conversation or on notes during the mission.
Coming up on the last part of the guide are the rest of the trophies-achievements for Dishonored and luckly, getting them is not gonna be as hard as the ones described here!

Shawn Johnson: Derek is smartest 'DWTS' pro

"Dancing" pro Derek Hough is the brightest in the ballroom when it comes to strategy, according to all-star Shawn Johnson.
Each week, Olympian and season eight "Dancing With the Stars" champ Shawn Johnson will be sharing her experiences on "All-Stars" with The Clicker! Look for Q&As, exclusive photos and more from the gold medalist throughout the season as she competes to win her second mirror ball trophy, this time alongside pro Derek Hough.

The Clicker: How?s your injured knee?
Shawn: It?s okay. I?m doing therapy each day trying to make it a little better.
The Clicker: It looked so scary when we saw it all swollen. Has the swelling gone down?
Shawn: Yeah. I?ve dealt with injuries for the last two years on and off. I?ve been through it all. I think I was more emotionally distraught than physically. I felt better once I got the pass from the doctor that it was just a sprain and I needed therapy.
The Clicker: How does it feel to be in fourth place with 84.5 points? Do you feel safe going into tonight?
Shawn: I know that I was happy with the dance. I think that for a ?country cha cha? we did pretty well. Derek was struggling with his neck today. I was struggling with my knee. I was happy we got through.
The Clicker: Derek said he was going to do next week?s dance especially for judge Len Goodman instead of tailoring it to what the viewers might like to see, but that?s also the week there are no fan votes! The judges? feelings will be even more vital.
Shawn: Yes, but I think any couple would do that.
The Clicker: Oh, yes. It?s a very smart, strategic move.
Shawn: Yes, strategically, Derek?s the smartest one out there.
(Note: ABC has since announced that plans have changed for next week's show. The judges will not eliminate a contestant next week. There will be a double elimination the following week with viewer votes factored in.)
The Clicker: Len doesn?t care for all the extras, but when your song has the word ?tractor? in the title ? well, you bring a tractor! ?
Shawn: Yes, I thought bringing a tractor suited our dance (on Monday). It?s country week. The song is ?She Thinks My Tractor?s Sexy.? If we?d gone for just a traditional cha cha I don?t think that it would have gone over well. We had to spice it up and have fun?and we did!
The Clicker: The video segments featuring the dancers and the stars have been less about doing activities and more about just showing you guys talk. Which do you prefer?
Shawn: They packages capture the genuine moments we have during conversations where we just talk about things. It?s more real than if something is staged, but we are still going places. This week, we?re going to the CMAs. I?m presenting the award to best vocal group of the year. It?s a dream come true!

4 killed in shrine bombing in northwest Pakistan
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) ? A powerful bomb went off outside the shrine of a Sunni Muslim saint in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, killing at least four people, police said.
Senior police officer Mumtaz Khan said 23 people were also wounded in the attack at the shrine of Kaka Sahib in the town of Nowshehra. Hundreds of devotees were present there at the time, and the dead and injured had been transported to a hospital.
There was no claim of responsibility but Pakistani militants such as the Taliban have been blamed for previous such attacks.
The militants follow a strict version of Islam and they claim visiting shrines is not allowed.
Nowshehra lies 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan. It is also believed to a hiding place for Taliban insurgents, who often target security forces and government officials to force Islamabad to stop backing Washington in the war against terrorism.

Her family is adamant that she can not bring BC with her?We are asking for help ? BC has to leave his mom?s home at the end of the month when she moves. She has been trying to find him a home, but as of now he has no where to go.
BC is a sweet cat with so many wonderful qualities. He is a gentle and loving soul who will make someone a delightful feline companion.
