Business Travel Flourishing in China and India and other Emerging Countries

In Asian, African and European Countries, the business of business travel is booming in emerging countries. Istanbul, ancient capital of empires, is with success refashioning itself as a contemporary transportation hub with higher connections to Asia than rivals within the us or Europe. And Brazil, a rising oil power, is gushing billions into infrastructure because it prepares to host the soccer World Cup next year and also the Olympic Games in 2016.

Businessmen are expected to spend about $1.16 trillion on airfare, accommodations and other travel this year, according to the Global Business Travel Association, up from $1.07 trillion last year. Much of that growth is returning from developing nations, prompting a boom in new construction in rising markets whereas business travel within the USA recovers at a slow pace and Europe, encumbered within the monetary unit crisis, remains stagnant.

The growth in passenger travel tells the story. Worldwide traffic increase 4% last year, according to the Airports council international, a trade group that represents more than 1,700 airports in 170 countries. In North America and Europe, airports had tremendous gains. Air transportation in emerging economies has been floaty.

Traffic in previous year increase by 7.5% in Asia, 7.3% in Latin America, 6.4% in African countries and 13% in the Middle East, according to the airport trade group, outpacing Western airports by a good margin. 5 airports in rising markets, every with over forty million annual passengers, rumored double-digit growth city, Dubai, Jakarta, Bangkok and Singapore consistent with a report free last month by the field cluster.

China?s business emerging spending has growth an average of 15.5% each year from 2000 to 2013 and is set to reach $226 billion this year, the worldwide business Travel association. Unusually, that figure is growing when China?s export-led economy begins to block and build the transition to a consumer-oriented one.

Study: Fish oil doesn't help prevent heart attacks

Eating fish is good for your heart but taking fish oil capsules does not help people at high risk of heart problems who are already taking medicines to prevent them, a large study in Italy found.

The work makes clearer who does and does not benefit from taking supplements of omega-3 fatty acids, the good oils found in fish such as salmon, tuna and sardines.

Previous studies have suggested that fish oil capsules could lower heart risks in people with heart failure or who have already suffered a heart attack. The American Heart Association recommends them only for people who have high levels of fats called triglycerides in their blood, says the group's president, Dr. Donna Arnett of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Fish oil capsules failed to prevent flare-ups of atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm problem, in a large study in 2010.

The new study was led by the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan. It tested 1 gram a day of fish oil versus dummy capsules in 12,513 people throughout Italy. They had not suffered a heart attack but were at high risk of having one because of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity or other conditions. Most already were taking cholesterol-lowering statins, aspirin and other medicines to lower their chances of heart problems.

Researchers at first planned to compare the rate of death, heart attacks and strokes in the two groups, but these were less frequent than anticipated. So they started measuring how long it was before people in either group suffered one of these fates or was hospitalized for heart-related reasons. After five years, the rate was the same ? about 12 percent of each group had one of these problems.

"They're very high-risk people and so the level of other treatments was very high," Arnett said. "When you're being aggressively treated for all of your other risk factors, adding fish oil yielded no additional benefits."

Results are published in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine. Makers of fish oil supplements helped pay for the study.

Eating fish is known to help protect against heart disease, and the Heart Association recommends it at least twice a week.

"People who choose to eat more fish are more likely to eat heart healthier diets and engage in more physical activity," and studies testing the benefit of supplements may not be able to completely adjust for differences like these, said Alice Lichtenstein, director of the cardiovascular nutrition lab at Tufts University in Boston.

The results do show that people can't rely on a pill to make up for a bad diet, she said.

"It is sort of like breaking a fish oil capsule over a hot fudge sundae and expecting the effect of the calories and saturated fat to go away," she said.

At Whitefish Bay, he was the junior class president, prom king, editor of the school yearbook, an all-state swimmer and a state gold medal winner in forensics.

After graduating from Stanford University and Harvard University, Zenoff became a business consultant and has worked with companies such as Wells Fargo Bank, General Electric and The Nestle Co., the University of Notre Dame and many others.

But the biggest challenge in his life was dealing with his son's death, and Zenoff found two ways to ease his grief and bring light into the world. For starters, he works with other parents who have lost their children. In addition, he assists young people who have been marginalized in this world and are looking for a safe landing spot.?

?It is very lonely to lose a child,? he said. ?But parents welcome someone who went through it to sit with them and answer the questions of how to get joy back into their lives, how to handle holidays, birthdays and anniversaries.?

Zenoff said he just listens and follows the lead of the parents. He does not make judgments and doesn't expect them to grieve in the way he did.

The other way Zenoff dealt with the challenge of losing his son is to give back to children who are like his son ? marginal students, loners. So he went to work with the Larkin Street Youth Service in San Francisco to help homeless youth.

?It was my major non-work project for 18 years,? he said.

He may not have directly worked with the children, but he used his business acumen to increase donations to the center and to put people on the board who were philanthropic and concerned for children.

?I feel I've been successful because this center has become a model for helping homeless youth across the nation," he said. "But we as a society won't be successful as a whole until all these types of kids are loved and cared for."

MANILA, Philippines (AP) ? The Philippine foreign secretary said Friday that he has recommended President Benigno Aquino III pull out all Filipino U.N. peacekeepers from the Golan Heights following the abduction of four by Syrian rebels, the second such incident in two months.

Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario said the government believes the exposure of the country's 342 peacekeepers "is beyond tolerable limits."

Aquino will have the final say in the matter. It is not clear when the decision will be made.

"We have sent a recommendation to the president and as soon as he says go, we will undertake to do that as soon as possible," del Rosario told reporters.

He added: "We have to worry about the safety of our people ... we don't want to unnecessarily expose our people there."

Syrian rebels seized the four peacekeepers along the U.N.-patrolled demarcation line separating the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and Syria on Tuesday, only two months after 21 Filipino peacekeepers were abducted and held for three days by the rebels in the same area.

A video emerged online Thursday that purportedly shows the abducted peacekeepers, who appeared unhurt. A bearded man, believed to be with a group called the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, read out a statement saying the peacekeepers had been moved to another location for their own safety as fighting raged between Syrian government troops and rebels.

The statement did not specify where the peacekeepers were being held, nor conditions for their release.

The Yarmouk Brigades also was behind the March abduction.

"We are also aware of the fact that negotiations are also being undertaken with the group that has allegedly abducted these peacekeepers. We contend on the other hand that abduction of peacekeepers is a violation of international law," del Rosario said.

"If you look at the situation there, the people that abducted the peacekeepers were actually under siege and they were using our people to be able to get them out of the situation that they found themselves in. And that's not healthy for us," he said.

Nearly 1,000 U.N. peacekeepers are patrolling the Golan Heights, which Israel seized from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war. Other major contributors are India and Austria. Croatia has recently withdrawn its contingent.
